S.L.N. Pre-University College traces its roots back to 1966 when it was founded by the late Shri Doddanna Setty, a dedicated philanthropist and a member of the Jyothi Nagara Vysya Ganiga (J.V.) community. Shri Doddanna Setty envisioned a world where education was not a privilege but a fundamental right for every child, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. His dedication and commitment laid the foundation for what is today one of the most respected educational institutions in the region.The college began its journey as part of the S.L.N. Degree College, functioning under a unified administration. For decades, the institution served as a beacon of hope for families striving for better educational opportunities. In 2001, recognizing the need for a more focused approach to pre-university education, S.L.N. Pre-University College was bifurcated into an independent entity under the government-aided category. This transition allowed the institution to cater specifically to pre-university students while continuing to uphold its legacy of affordable education.

The vision of late Shri Doddanna Setty was not limited to academics. He believed in a holistic approach to education, ensuring that students were equipped with both knowledge and values. Staying true to his ideals, the college has prioritized making education accessible to middle-class and underprivileged families by strictly adhering to government fee structures. Over the years, the college has embraced modernization to align with evolving educational demands. In 2017, the introduction of the CEBA (Computer Science, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy) section marked a significant milestone. This unaided section, supported by a state-of-the-art computer lab, enabled students to gain exposure to computer-based learning, which is critical in today’s technology-driven world. S.L.N. Pre-University College also stands out for its commitment to social welfare. Initiatives like Akshara Dasoha and Anna Dasoha ensure that no student studies on an empty stomach, providing nutritious mid-day meals to all. Furthermore, the college offers free hostel accommodations for students belonging to the Jyothi Nagara Vysya (J.V.) community, embodying the philosophy of “charity begins at home.”

With a prime location on Krishna Rajendra Road, near Bengaluru Fort and Victoria Hospital, the college has been a hub for education in the city. The excellent connectivity via metro and BMTC services has made it a convenient choice for students from both urban and rural areas.
